Four family Christmas rituals
We’ve all been brought up with our own family Christmas rituals, and I thought now was the perfect time to share my top five Christmas rituals to hopefully give you some inspiration as we enter December. Some of these rituals may be simple, some might be a bit silly but that’s all the fun.
Sitting down with a pencil and paper and writing to Santa means the start of the Christmas holidays. We usually decorate the letter with lots of glitter or even age it using teabags and popping it in the oven to curl the ends.
Finally we pull on our wellies and head out on a winter’s day walk to the red letterbox to post the letter to the North Pole. (Plus, sending a reply from Santa is an added bonus for the kids.)
What better way to get in the festive spirit than donning a pair of skates and soaring along the ice? Even if you’re like me and need to hold onto the to the side, this wintry activity is bound to put a smile on the kids’ faces.
Here are two super Christmassy ice rinks that have been set up for the holidays if you fancy a skate:
As the evenings draw in it’s nice to go on a walk through your neighbourhood and local high street just after it gets dark to see the houses and shops lit up with fairy lights, and decorated with snowmen and reindeers.
It’s a very simple tradition, but lovely all the same. The lights make everything look magical.
Christmas Eve baking
We all like to get in the kitchen on Christmas Eve to do a little baking for Father Christmas’ arrival. This is the perfect way to get all the family doing something chilled out together before a busy Christmas Day when relatives are visiting.
The results: a lot of flour everywhere, the perfect treat for Santa, and a few sneaky mince pies for you!
